Summer Oolong Special 2019

Bright amber in cup, this tea medium bodied and smooth without any astringency. It has muscatel, nutty and honey notes of a treasured Second Flush Tea.

With the start of summer and warmer weather, the First Flush season has come to a close. This is the transition period between the First Flush and Second Flush. The buds become dormant, and the tea bushes produce 2 leaves without a bud. This period usually lasts for 2-3 weeks, after which, the bushes are back to harvesting 2 leaves with a bud. This is the start of the Second Flush season. The large majority of the estate is currently in the transition period. We did notice 1 particular section that had starting budding early. The AV-2 Summer Oolong Special is made from the fine leaf of this section. It is our first tea with the 2nd Flush character this season! A small amount of fine leaf was harvested, and it took about 4 pluckers to pick leaf for 1kg of tea!

TASTING NOTES

A smooth, medium-heavy mouthfeel. The taste is complex and fruity with hints of berry and sweet honey.


Dry Leaf Appearance: The stylish long leaf is very gently rolled and the hue is coppery.
Wet Leaf Aroma: Roasted and woody.
Liquor: Light amber.
